This happened in the car…
Jack: Daddy, can you talk to God?
Me: Yeah, you can talk to God whenever you want.
Jack: Can you talk to him right now.
Me: Right now? What do you want me to talk to him about?
Jack: Well, can you just ask him for a Sonic store?
Me: What’s a Sonic store?
Jack: Well you know. It’s just a store where you can get sonic stuff, like videos and games and stuff.
Me: Why don’t you ask him for a Sonic store?
Jack: (emphatically) When I asked him it didn’t come!

This morning at breakfast.
Jack: Oh no, daddy I spilled some of my milk.
Me: Aw, Jack.
Jack: It’s ok daddy, you can just clean it up.

Ruben D. Whitfield Jr. was a good man. There is no way anyone could look at his life and think any different. Ruben was deeply loved. He was loved by his wife of 67 years, Naomi Whitfield, or Nana, by his 9 grandchildren and by his 10 great-grandchildren, along with countless others.

Ruben served as an elder at the Smithville Church of Christ for 40 years. He taught his children and grandchildren the value of working for the Lord, even when the work was thankless. He showed them the beauty of love and laughter, and he lived out the greatest command every day of his life.

If you looked at pictures of him throughout his life, you would notice how happy everyone around him looked. He made it easy for people to be happy.

Yes, Ruben D. Whitfield Jr. was a very good man.

#2 Shrinking belts.

All my belts seem to be shrinking. I can’t figure out if the leather is defective or what. Maybe over time belts just shrink. They fit great when I was in college, but they started shrinking a couple of years ago. It’s frustrating.
